The health of your mouth plays a big role in your overall health!

Did you know that research is showing a growing tie between overall health and oral health?
With consistent visits for dental hygiene, you can be assured you're being provided a top level of preventative care that is supplementary to regular brushing and flossing at home. A dental professional that focuses on the deep cleaning of your teeth is a registered dental hygienist (RDH) and they play a vital role in keeping your teeth free from both bacteria and plaque build-up, prevention of tooth decay and the maintenance of your gum health.

We scan for oral cancer and any other onset of disease in the early stages because that is when we can administer treatment most effectively.

At Riverpark Dental, our hygienists are passionate about the healthy habits, mindsets, and behaviors that are important in improving and maintaining oral health; and we do that through our education and preventative care, along with professional dental cleanings and therapeutic care when needed. Professional dental cleanings contribute to healthy teeth maintenance, and therapeutic care is provided when tissues are diseased with problems such as periodontal disease.

Professional dental cleanings

An important aspect of professional a dental cleaning is the removal of plaque buildup occurring under your gums. This procedure is called scaling and is a part of every dental hygiene appointment. Scaling will reduce redness and inflammation and any bleeding caused by bacteria living under the gums. This build-up of plaque and tartar occurs even with daily brushing and flossing and can house many different bacteria that contribute to periodontal disease.

Periodontal disease can develop when you miss your dental hygiene appointments and usually commences as gingivitis: red, inflamed, and bleeding gums. Gingivitis can progress into periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is when the supporting structures underneath your gums and your bone are being eaten away by bacteria, leading to bad breath and limited function of your teeth and mouth. Eventually, if periodontal disease persists, your teeth will be lost.

We use our mouths every minute of every day for so many important things, which makes it easy to take for granted things like talking, eating, and smiling. When you attend your regular dental hygiene appointments, we are able to contribute to keeping your teeth and mouth healthy and comfortably functional

A typical visit with the dental hygienist will include:

  • An assessment of current dental hygiene
  • The removal of plaque and tartar
  • Polishing of teeth and removal of stains
