Protect your teeth

Your personal habits greatly influence the unique approach you need to take to protect your teeth. How you eat, how you sleep, and what sports you play all can bring damage to your teeth. Whether you play sports that puts your teeth at risk or you have a habit of clenching and grinding your teeth at night, Riverpark Dental has solutions for you.

We offer dental guards that are custom-fit for your mouth at Riverpark Dental. It’s always better to take the custom-fit approach as opposed to buying a guard in a retail store. Custom-fit guards provide more comfort during sports or sleeping as opposed to ones bought in a retail store, which is important because the more comfortable it is- the more likely your child will wear it consistently.

Two main methods of protecting your teeth:

Night Guards

What is it?

Night guards are an effective treatment option for our patients that suffer from the unconscious clenching and grinding of their teeth as they sleep.

The night guard is designed so that you breathe easily but strongly protects against many of the dental issues outlined below.

Risks & Benefits

Night guards are an effective treatment option for people who clench and grind their teeth in the night. Overtime, excessive grinding and clenching without any protection can lead to dental pain, tired jaws, headaches, and temporomandibular (TMJ) disorders.

How is it done?

At your first appointment, the dentist will take impressions using iTero, our digital impression software. We then send these off to a dental laboratory for the night guard to be made. Once it’s made it will be sent back to Riverpark Dental.

We then have you come back to Riverpark Dental to try the night guard on to ensure it fits you and you find it comfortable to wear.

Mouthguards

Mouthguard - Definition

Mouth guards are an important piece of protective athletic gear, it protects your teeth and jaw by absorbing impact during contact sports.

Risks & Benefits

Mouth guards are vital for hockey players because teeth can be lost from unpredictable pucks and sticks coming up into their mouth’s. They also protect against concussions, because when a player is hit in football or hockey they usually bite down on their teeth hard, with the mouth guard absorbing the shock.

Mouth guards can prevent a possible tooth extraction later on by absorbing shock that would otherwise damage the teeth and jaw.

Conditions like clenching and grinding of the teeth and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders can be treated with mouth guards.

What’s Next?

The mouth guard is made in our own state-of-the-art laboratory at Riverpark Dental.

At your first appointment, one of our dentists will take impressions of your teeth using iTeroTM digital impression technology. Impressions will be taken for the upper or lower teeth, depending on the dentists recommendation for the mouth guard.

The impressions are then sent to a dental laboratory where the mouth guard is made, and then shipped back to Riverpark Dental.

We then have you come back to Riverpark Dental to try the mouth guard on to ensure it fits you and you find it comfortable to wear.
